A World Without a Roof

Sahjeevan and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation put together an exhibition — Living Lightly, Journey with Pastoralists to showcase the lives of various pastoral communities of India. A World Without a Roof was designed as a beginner book for the exhibition to introduce the idea of pastoralism to the audience. The book contains four stories that provide an insight into the lives of pastoralists, the hardships and challenges they face and how they have managed to stay relevant. The book required mainly realistic illustrations rendered with a brush pen. We created the illustrations so that the pages can lend themselves to the graphic narrative. The colour palette was chosen to bring out the earthiness of the stories and places contained in the book.
